Where should I store the kit and how long is the shelf life?

Detection kits are shipped on dry ice and must be stored at -15 to -25 °C. Sample Preparation Kits are shipped and stored at room temperature. The shelf life of our kits is indicated on the label of the package. A minimum of 3 month is guaranteed. Buffers and reagents which are already in use have to be stored according to information given in the package insert.

How long can I leave the test kits on the lab bench whilst preparing the PCR mix?

In general, the real-time PCR mixes should not be exposed to light except for pipetting since the fluorescence labels are light sensitive. Normally, PCR analysis should be conducted immediately after PCR setup, but can be kept at room temperature (15-25 °C) during preparation for up to two hours. In the case of delay of more than 15 minutes, it's also possible to store the reagents at 4 °C in the dark up to 1h. There is no need to conduct the mixture of the PCR reagents on ice.
